The Invaluable Life Lessons from The 75 Hard Challenge

Completing the 75 Hard program was more than just a test of physical endurance; it was a transformative journey that reshaped my entire perspective on life and what I'm capable of achieving.

Each day, as I pushed through the two gruelling 45-minute workouts—one always under the open sky—I not only sculpted my body but also forged a new, unbreakable spirit within me.

The program demanded not just physical strength, but an iron will to adhere to a strict diet without a single cheat meal or drop of alcohol. This discipline spilled over into every part of my life, teaching me a profound lesson in commitment, self-respect and self-control.

But it wasn't just about the physical transformations or the strict routines. It was the mental resilience I developed along the way that left the deepest impact. There were moments of doubt and temptation, where every fibre of my being wanted to give up. Yet, with each day I completed, I found a new layer of mental toughness and a deeper well of determination.

For those that aren’t familiar with 75 Hard it consists of a disciplined approach to the following daily tasks over 75 consistent days – fall short on any and you start again.

• Follow a diet - No cheat meals

• No alcohol

• Complete two 45-minute workouts, one of which must be outdoors

• Take a progress picture

• Drink 1 gallon of water

• Read 10 pages of a book (audiobooks not included)

This journey was a mirror, reflecting back at me the power of perseverance and the incredible potential that lay within my grasp. I have not felt this level of self-commitment since my ultra marathon running days of 100 milers and Marathon Des Sables.

The easiest part: No alcohol, no problem. I have always enjoyed a glass of red wine but now I am getting up earlier, fresher, full of energy without the grogginess and feeling great – no contest!

My favourite part? Most definitely the reading 10+ pages of a book each day. Here is the thing, I consume audio books at the rate of 2 per week but always whilst doing something else. With this challenge the act of sitting down and mindfully reading (with no other distractions) had a massive effect positively on my well-being. Calmness and focus – I loved it. No longer will reading be the preserve of the holiday sun lounger!!

The hardest bit: evolving my diary schedule to drive the discipline of 2 x 45 min workouts including one outdoors wasn’t easy every day at all but once I sorted that out then everything else fell into place – it just needed that initial effort to rejig my priorities.

As I emerged from the 75 days Challenge, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. It was more than just pride in sticking to a plan; it was a profound confidence that came from knowing I could set incredibly challenging goals and meet them head-on.

The 75 Hard programme didn’t just reshape my body—it reshaped my mind, my heart, and my approach to life's challenges. It left a lasting legacy in my life, a reminder that with true grit and unwavering discipline, anything is possible. This journey was a call to explore the depths of my capabilities, a call that continues to resonate within me, urging me to push beyond the boundaries of comfort and mediocrity. It’s a legacy that I carry forward, one that continues to inspire and challenge me in every aspect of my existence.
